This is the most important meeting of them all, as an independent arbitrator will be present at the meeting to review the proposal and then make a recommendation to move forward with or throw out the proposal. Every NTA parent is urged to attend. Buses food, and free childcare will be available at NTA. Buses will depart NTA at 4:30 and 5pm. The event begins at 6pm at 42 West Madison.

Response to CPS Hearing Officer’s Report

Dear NTA Family,

On Monday, Feb. 12th, retired judge Francis Dolan published his report on the hearing that was held on the proposal to turn NTA into a high school. The full report can be found here:

Dolan finds that CPS is in compliance with its own policies and procedures, a statement that simply isn’t true. In the entire 85 page document, Dolan doesn’t once address any of the violations that were raised by our legal team, and he doesn’t even provide any explanation to support his statement that CPS followed its own rules. This is a clear example of the system simply rubber-stamping CPS’ decisions. Technically, CPS has the ability to override the Hearing Officer’s recommendations, so even if Dolan had actually followed the law and found that CPS was in violation, CPS is under no obligation to listen to the Hearing Officer. Therefore, Dolan’s report amounts to nothing more than a box that needs to be checked.

While this news may be disappointing, unfortunately, it is not surprising. We have known from the beginning that rules have been bent, lies have been told, and false information has been spread all in an attempt to destroy NTA. What CPS doesn’t realize is that NTA’s story is gaining momentum throughout the city, and with every day that passes, more and more people are being drawn to our side. For example, after the hearing was over, and in less than 24 hours, over 1,000 people emailed or hand-wrote letters in opposition to the plan to turn us into a high school. OVER ONE THOUSAND! This is compared to only 68 letters written in favor of the proposal.

We are building a movement, and we are inspiring others to join us.

The fight for our school’s future is heating up, and we have some very exciting events over the next few weeks. On Wednesday (Feb 14th), please join us at 4:00 pm outside of NTA for a rally to “Show Rahm Some Love.” On Monday, Feb 19th (President’s Day), we will be joining our Englewood allies for a rally at Lakeview High School. A bus will leave NTA at 11:00 am.

Please join us at both events. Now is the time to show strength in numbers and to GET LOUD. Rahm and CPS need to know that NTA is here to stay. We will plan. We will persist, We will prevail. And we will WIN!
